History of
Oak Hill Church of Christ
The
Oak Hill congregation began on October 30, 2005. The members all formerly
attended the Fairview congregation in Stockbridge, Georgia but many had moved
their residence to southern
Henry County and Butts County and the commute was becoming too much. Also, the members saw a community that was
the fastest growing area in Henry, Newton, and Butts counties and there was no
church of Christ within 20-30 minutes of them. So about 30 Christians decided
to start the Oak Hill congregation.
The group began
meeting in the basement of the home of one of its members, Jan King. The group continued to meet there until
November 20, 2005, when we ran across an opportunity to begin renting a piece
of property that was being used as a worship facility by a denominational
group. The facility was also for sale
and the members at Oak Hill,
showing their faith in what God had put
before them and believing in the power of prayer, signed a contract to purchase
the property. For three months the
group worked to secure financing for the property and the efforts was blessed
with success when on February 24, 2006, the group closed on the property. In less than four months the congregation
was
able to become a legal not-for-profit
corporation recognized by the state of Georgia, begin operations with weekly
worship services and activities including a Bible School program for all ages,
AND purchase 6.6 acres with a building and a private residence.
The Oak Hill congregation
FULLY recognizes that God is at work in this endeavor and are honored to be a
part of this work.
